Bluetick Coonhound

The Bluetick Coonhound

Bluetick Coonhound is yet another dog breed that is fast, very muscular and is mostly used for raccoon hunting. They are affectionate and sweet and could also be house pets irrespective of their enthusiasm for hunting. Oh, and their coat stands them out with its blue and black patches. Discover more about our Bluetick Coonhound puppies for sale below!

With its cold nose and drawn out jaw, the Bluetick is a breed that has been traced back to the colonial era. They are said to be the product of mating different coonhounds together. This breed was originally called the English coonhound but this name was subsequently changed in 1946. This breed was finally accepted into the American kennel club in 2009.

Bluetick coonhound is first and foremost a hunter. They have a remarkable prey drive and at all times would want to follow a trail. That being said, they do crave attention and could be very loyal and devoted to their owners or anyone else who shows them affection and gives them the attention they crave.

If they are left for a long period of time alone or neglected in any way, they could develop behavioral problems and would be difficult to live with. They could also be loud with their sorrowful howling whenever they are lonely and your neighbors may just have to call animal control.

This is a really big dog though the females are much smaller so they need a lot of space. They can adapt comfortably to living with people and even in apartments but you would need to give him a lot of room. This breed is also good for first-time owners as they are very sensitive.

It would afford you the opportunity of learning the ropes with your dog. They also love to play with children so you would not have to worry if you have any.

There is a reason why it is advised to keep them on a leash in the backyard. They are very active animals and would follow any scent if given the opportunity. This means they need a lot of exercises daily. Though they love being with their owners indoors, it is advised that you give them their due.

If you love to run, they make terrific running buddies but you would need to take care lest they outrun you. You could also have fetch sessions with them in the yard or take long walks with them on a leash. Just make sure they get the appropriate amount of exercise needed.

The Bluetick’s coat is relatively short and also sheds quite moderately. They should be bathed occasionally except you do not appreciate their scent or they have gotten themselves messy. Their coats should be brushed weekly to remove all loose hairs that would shed eventually.

Like every other pet, they should be kept clean and this includes dental care and overall body care. Brush their teeth to reduce odor and give them dental treats. You should also clean the ears regularly to avoid infections. Cut their nails too so they don’t scratch when they jump on you.

Our Bluetick Coonhound puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. USDA licensed commercial breeders account for less than 20% of all breeders in the country.

The unregulated breeders who are selling outside of the USDA regulations and without a license are what we consider to be “Puppy Mills.” We are committed to offering Bluetick Coonhound puppies who will grow up to become important members of your family. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell.
