Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother’s house we go! The holidays often mean travel, and if your puppies go on the road with you, it gets them away from their home and out of their familiar surroundings.
The stress brought about by the break in their routines often has consequences, one of which is stomach distress. Some people take the medication route, others will board their dogs while they are away. But, seeing and experiencing new things is one of the great joys that you and your dog can have together, so why not let your dog come along?
You might find that you need to alter your feeding schedule somewhat. Feeding your dog a light meal well before your departure will make it less likely that your dog will experience stomach problems. If you plan this in advance and adjust the previous day’s feeding schedule, your dog won’t be hungry or have a full belly. According to the ASPCA, go for bottled water because your dog may not react well to water that is different from the water they normally drink.
There are also food options that could settle the stomach, and this is where Petland West Wichita can help you. Plan early and work in some changes to diets and routines to make your trip easier on your dog. We invite you to come into our store at 3520 N. Maize during our extended weekend hours to find out ways to settle your dog’s stomach on those long car rides.
